Computer based training
Through computer based training programmes (CBT) the crew undergo training on dedicated PC’s while onboard. The CBT is delivered by Seagull and consists of more than 50 program courses. In addition to training modules that aim to provide the required training according to national and international legislation, this training program gives the seafarer the opportunity to request special training modules in order to upgrade their professional competence, something we believe has a clear positive and motivational factor. At the end of each program, a test must be completed and passed, in order to receive a certificate.
Safety Awards
Each year safety awards are assigned to ships according to a fixed set of evaluation criterias. Together with the experience transfers, these factors contribute attention to HES/Q matters. We have developed a common understanding that we are working as a team, where both parties in the office and onboard the vessels are dependent on each other in order to produce results.
Company Conferences
Twice a year Company Conferences are held in Stavanger for senior officers. Both Company related issues/developments and specific training courses or drills are a part of these weekly sessions. In addition, a central element is also to enhance communication and motivation among the participants and to create a good team atmosphere between officers and company representatives.
SMS Familiarisation
Familiarisation with the Company’s Safety Management System is viewed as essential and has been a central part of the internal audits conducted onboard. In 2002, all vessels took part in a one-day SMS familiarisation seminar onboard.
Teambuilding - Newbuildings /Manilla
In connection with the Company’s new buildings in Japan, teambuilding seminars for the crew is carried out prior to vessels delivery. Representatives from the HES/Q Department, Technical Department as well as our manning office in Manilla have been contributors on this seminar, highlighting important familiarisation matters as well as introduction of Departments. As with the Company Conferences, a central element is also to enhance communication and motivation among the participants and to create a good team atmosphere. Once a year crew-teambuilding seminars are carried at our Manning Office in Manilla. Training in topics such as cultural awareness, work attitudes, leadership and teamwork skills are all considered essential.
