HEALTH
Securing the crew members' life, health and welfare has high priority in Solvang and all aspects of organisation and execution of work onboard take this into consideration.

Medical checks
Before signing on, all crewmembers undergo a thorough medical check in order to ensure that all are physical and mentally fit for their duties onboard.

In addition to the required Norwegian health certificate with a validity of 2 years, the Filipino authorities require an additional medical check up for each new contract. The clinic we use for our seafarers in Manilla holds a rather high standard and strict policy, compared to the majority of

Manning outfits. Therefore, the number of sick leaves and P. & I. cases in our pool is kept comfortably low. Absence due to illness in 2002 was 1.5 %.

Drug and Alcohol Policy
Solvang has a very strict drug and alcohol policy and extensive test for both drug and alcohol abuse is a part of these medical checks.  Unannounced tests for drug and alcohol are also carried out on all vessels throughout the year.

Protection and Environmental Committee
All vessels have a Protection and Environment Committee onboard, who meets frequently to discuss health, environment and safety issues onboard. Monthly, quarterly and yearly reports form the Committee are submitted to office for review. The reports are a valuable tool for continuous improvement of working conditions onboard and for preventing unwanted situations.

LTI
We have experienced a noticeable reduction in LTI over the last years. LTI Frequence has improved from 4.65 in 2001, to 1,76 in 2004.
